Summary:
The Public Safety Officer I is responsible for the detection and prevention of crime, for the protection of persons, property and the general maintenance of peace, order and security; duties include patrol, crowd control, traffic control and dispatching.
Minimum
Qualifications:
Candidates will have, at least a some college credits after having completed high school or GED.
College requirement not necessary for those with qualifying military service Must possess and maintain a valid US driver's license Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a NYS Security Guard License CPR and AED certification must be completed within three months of hire All Public Safety Officer I incumbents must successfully complete Rensselaer's Field Officer Training Program within four (4) months of hire Must be available for flexible shift scheduling Note:
Five (5) years of safety, security, law enforcement experience or other related experience may be substituted for college credits Relevant combinations of education, training and experience may be considered.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Demonstrated ability to apply critical thinking skills Must possess the ability to assess a situation and apply appropriate conflict resolution techniques Ability to use crisis intervention techniques Ability to use relevant personal and/or mobile computing technology Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills Requires ability to handle multiple emergency situations Requires excellent customer relations skills and the ability to deal effectively with a diverse population in an academic setting Preferred Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities Knowledge of computerized emergency and data base systems Shift Public Safety:
Various Shifts.
All members of the Department of Public Safety must be available for flexible shift scheduling Travel Local travel between campus locations only Driving Driving a Rensselaer vehicle for non-passenger use COVID-19 Pandemic Protocols As Rensselaer welcomes undergraduate and graduate students back to campus for an in-person academic experience, all faculty and staff are expected to work onsite, with no remote work allowed.
In addition, Rensselaer requires all faculty and staff to be vaccinated against COVID-19.
